Born and raised in Cuba, Dr. González was ordained as a Methodist minister in 1957 and became the youngest person to earn a doctorate in Historical Theology from Yale University in 1961. With over thirty years of teaching experience at various theological institutions, including the Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico, and having authored over 150 books, Dr. González is a globally recognized authority in his field. His works, such as the two-volume History of Christianity and the three-volume History of Christian Thought, have been translated into ten languages.

In his retirement, Dr. González has devoted himself to research, writing, and promoting Hispanic theological education. He played a crucial role in founding the Asociación para la Educación Teológica Hispana (AETH), the Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI), and the Hispanic Summer Program (HSP). His commitment to mentoring and encouraging Latinas, Latinos, and other minority students is unparalleled.
